Growth should not be an end goal. But sustained accelerating profitable growth is the ultimate proof that the company creates value for customers, employees, suppliers, society and thus also for the owners.

Growth can dramatically increase the company’s profitability by differentiating between “base revenue” and “growth revenue” with dramatically increased flow through, as the base revenue services the capacity costs.

Another consideration is that if your business doesn’t grow, then it’s dying. In the sense that if you do not challenge yourself through an ambitious growth strategy, you will not be asking the provocative questions that make you look for and create significantly better solutions.

A final perspective is that nothing has as big an impact on the sale price/exit value of a company as its ability to create continuous accelerating profitable growth. The price can double if the company grows, compared to a company that does not grow. Even if turnover and profitability are the same.
